Lets draw: Spider-Man portrait

Marker Sketches

Selection of sketches drawn with Copic brush markers just for fun. They will be on display at a comic convention near you!

Pencil sketches

GZA

I had this idea of drawing all 9 members of Wu-Tang Clan in kung-fu superhero style for a while, but then when I heard that GZA was coming to do a show live nearby (100km away), I had to put that thought into reality. Even though I was currently swamped with work, I sacrificed some sleep to get this done.

End result: Went to the show, had an unforgettable time, and managed to hand this 11 x 17 poster off to the man himself.

"This is dope! Can I keep this?" -GZA

Glad it got the approval of a man that I think is the best lyricist of all time. Maybe one day I can design the cover for "Liquid Swords 2" :)

Igneous Art: A Penny for your Thoughts

As a warmup, I've been doing sketches of famous people, real quick and loose. Somewhere down the line, I got the idea to make these motivational quotes and present them in a new way. I've been posting them on my facebook public page entitled Igneous Art. The response has been great, so I keep doing these. I have a lot more on there, so if you have a facebook account, please head on over there and click the "Like" button. Thanks in advance :)

He-Man wip

This is the character that started it all for me, around the age of 6. For now I just posted this sketch so the interweb knows I'm still alive and kickin. As soon as i get a breath of free time from work, I plan on finishing this.

Anatomy

How can that not be the most interesting thing to draw?

I haven't done an actual anatomy practice in a while, so I wanted to test myself and see how much of my kinesiology classes still remain in my cranium.

I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome, as I got about 90% correct without any reference. The rust came in the form of all facial muscles, which is not surprising since they do not show through the skin. Also I was stuck at the hands and feet, but this hiccup was no match for my collection of anatomy books, and my ability to read the index.

Now... remembering all the names of the muscles is a whole different topic. I might squeeze by with a passing grade :)

The Darkness

DeviantArt had a little contest to draw a single page for the Darkness comic last month, so I decided to jump in.

Unfortunately I didn't have time to ink / color it due to other projects taking up most of my time, but still I had a blast drawing with pencils. It has been such a long time since I've drawn anything "traditionally", so my eyes appreciated the rest away from the monitor.

Now that I've been through the process of researching the characters, laying out panels and drawing sequential art, I wouldn't mind being a penciler for a few projects  ;)

New Animation Project

My next little project will be a 1-2 minute animation of a robot doing a .... wait for it... robot dance. Not the most original idea but it's one area that I've never explored; dancing. I've been doing fighting animations for the past 3 years and I need something fresh in my reel.

However, if someone knows a up and coming producer/DJ that makes dope beats that could provide me with a tune, please connect me to him... and maybe we can make a music video out of this thing.

I hope to finish this thing within 3 months. It will be just this one character dancing in a simple backdrop.

One of the inspirations is this video of "NONSTOP" dancing to "Pumped Up Kicks" remixed by Butch Clancy.

Winter Sketches

Back to sketching with a good old technical pencil

Fall Sketches

Light gray and black brush markers:

"A dangerous fish. Exotic. But not scary. Cute." ...was my girlfriend's request as we waited for our plane to start boarding.

FanExpo 2010 aftermath

Back from the FanExpo... and can't wait for the next one!

This year was the first time I've attended it so I didn't know what to expect, but within minutes of being there it proved to be fun. I saw many cool costumes, old classmates, talented Pete Emsley and Bobby Chiu (my Sheridan profs) and many other talented artists.

I'm posting a few of the commissions I did and few photos I snapped in between drawing.

1am...off to bed

A few rejected cover ideas:
I will post the better ones in the upcoming months, fully painted: Hulk and Thor
I also like the Iron Man #2...might do that one if I have the time.
